Dedicated to Roo the stunt cat, our favorite barncat who disappeared just before we found 4.5" cat prints just across the creek.

About our bend in the road

Five Star Dobermans is located in Stony Lonesome, a small, still valley nestled among the ridges and creeks of southern Indiana.

"Stony Lonesome is a bend in the road, with nothing much to set it apart from the other bends in the road. Like so many places in southern Indiana at mid twentieth century it was surely stony, placed as it is in limestone country. It is fair to say it was also lonely with a lot of trees and some limestone outcroppings, and very quiet, an eternal quiet. It was the name that got me. It has been said that Edgar Allen Poe, when asked his favorite words in the English language, replied, "Cellar door." Nice, but I will take Stony Lonesome -- sheer poetry. It seems a metaphor for life. A life contains some stony outcroppings and each of us gets our share of loneliness. There are many poetic places on Indiana back roads: Stone Head, Gnaw Bone, Greasy Creek, Hindustan, Needmore, Bean Blossom, all attesting to the poetic nature of country folk.
-- From the Preface to Jack Welpott's highly regarded "Driving to Stony Lonesome, Jack Welpott's Indiana Photographs, 1936-1959", available at quality booksellers.

It's all so true. However there's nothing quite like a Doberman pup or two to take the edge off of excessive loneliness and quietude.

And don't be afraid of disturbing what's left of our peace and quiet! We enjoy nothing more than a call from friendly folks to chat about what may be arguably one of the finest breeds of dog in history: 812-342-7421. We're in the Eastern Time Zone. If you like, we can even set up a time for you to visit
