How
we're improving the breed
How we're improving the breed: by providing a limited number
of Doberman pups that
Our family kennel is our pleasure, but we won't consider it a success unless our customers are better off for having become our customers. Five Star Dobermans goes to every effort (see our Guarantee) to breed and start a loving, healthy puppy that will fit in with its new, correctly matched active-family and will grow into an invaluable and healthy companion and guardian. Our delight, and our most valued asset will be the wonderful stories of Doberman companionship and protection from grateful customers. We aim to breed and start healthy, well-tempered, beautiful and powerful Dobermans with a knack for the family security business. We're looking for the kind of dog that will slurp any six-month old who decides crawl all over it, but will also cause most troublemakers to decide to move on to less risky neighborhoods.
Properly handled and matched to its owning family, a dog is an incredible addition to a family: great for kids, great for adults, a part of the family to love and care for, capable of providing entertainment, joy, exercise, security and unlimited love. But owners must recognize that all dogs have canine drives and needs, so a dog is not happiest when treated as a human baby. Neither is a dog likely to have a full, long life if let run and minimally supervised. Great family dogs have their canine needs met, but also desire to be with their owning families and to earn attention and love. A dog is (and owning families are) happiest when the dog is well trained, treated as a dog, and presented with clearly defined boundaries so it knows what's expected of it. This approach can almost completely avoid conflict. A dog is an individual and a long-term commitment. To avoid a disaster, the owning family must be well matched to the breed and well matched to the individual dog.
. . . with star-crossed eyes. It's not for everybody, but we love this breed that was created only about a century ago by a dog-catcher/tax collector, a bell ringer and a grave digger. Out of all the breeds we've come across we love the Doberman best for its intelligence and trainability, gentleness, emotional neediness, eagerness to please, athleticism and power, stoic acceptance of physical pain, and for its ability to protect. And that's the short list. Without the Doberman, we doubt that the phrase "man's best friend" would ever have caught on.
Dogs are great part of growing up and, "A Dobie named X-Box" Through
giving love, a dog will teach a child to re As the child grows he may learn responsibility by taking over the feeding, watering and exercising of his companion. When the child is sad or ill, the dog will show concern. And the child will reciprocate with gratitude, love and compassion. The dog's lessons continue. Through
willing submission to the child, the dog will teach him to be a kind and caring
maste We believe that showing love through word and action is the highest human virtue. And we believe that with proper adult oversight, a dog will teach a child to become more more human. We joke with our son that we should name one of our dogs "X-Box", so that he can "keep up" with his friends. He'd spend about as much time with his as they do with theirs. But we think he'd come out ahead!
Dogs are great for adults, too. Being greeted as if you're a V.I.P., having some one around who'll do anything for your time and affection, and who thinks you're amazingly smart is just plain good for the ego! Dogs just bring out the best in us. Also, try our "Doberman Diet Plan". Walk your Dobe for an hour a day and see what happens.
Breeding for Herr Dobermann's Doberman? Some Doberman breeders claim to be breeding for the original Doberman. Are we? Nein. Decades after the Doberman first came to America judges were afraid to inspect their mouths. Judges are some of the most experienced dog lovers around, and the mandatory inspection of teeth is conducted while the owner is holding the dog. Out of all the different breeds, there was only one that was too aggressive for judges to handle: the (more or less) original Doberman. We are not trying to breed this dog! Fortunately, decades of careful breeding have softened the Doberman so that now you can have a wonderful pet Dobe and also have friends over. And all with the confidence of knowing that "visiting houses with Dobermans" tends not to top the "things-to-do-today" lists of your average bad-guy. |
